We seek to weave together diverse spheres of evidence-based knowledge and worldviews by way of thought-provoking and actionable content that resides at the intersection of science, society, technology, health, culture, policy, and the living planet.
With an emphasis on complex systems and foundational questions, we aim to help break down rigid boundaries and dissonance that exist between different disciplines, cultures, demographics, and within ourselves. We foster dialogue and a long-term “big picture” approach to interdependent issues that impact our present, our future, and the understanding of our place in the cosmos.
The InterPlex aims for non-linear positive impact on complex, interconnected issues, and on foundational research. Our approach seeks to promote critical thinking, combat misinformation and dissolve gratuitous divisions that exist between siloed academic and social structures, at all scales.
By fostering interdisciplinary and intercultural collaboration and dialogue, and engaging the public and policy makers through compelling and understandable evidence-based, nuanced and actionable content, we envision an interconnected global community that supports and participates in a dynamic process of scientific truth-seeking that crosses disciplines and cultures.
“Evidence,” broadly speaking, can mean a lot of things, as can “Science.” Ideally, contributors will weave together multiple forms of scientific evidence. This includes primary research, pre-existing data, past and planned experiments and the referencing of peer-reviewed research and primary sources. It can also include local and traditional knowledge, thought experiments, theoretical proofs, contemplation, verifiable personal experience and empirical observation.
We focus on themes that cross boundaries and cultures, synthesize different perspectives, and emphasize complexity and interconnections. Our approach fosters dialogue and counteracts the engrained silo-structure and overspecialization in both research and broader society, as well as the oversimplified “click-bait” and misinformation rampant in the modern information ecosystem.
Writing and audiovisual content should be effectively communicated for an informed, non-specialized audience. We limit jargon, defining key technical words and concepts, and ensure that our content is accessible, actionable, and of broad interest.
We aim to give voice to a wide range of evidence-based perspectives, cultures, and demographics. Great ideas and abilities can come from anywhere, and a broad definition of “science” can help establish equity, countering biases in academic, publishing and funding systems. We are developing dynamic frameworks and editorial tools to enhance this vision.
We welcome pitches, unsolicited manuscripts, multimedia and project ideas from qualified contributors, such as researchers, community and thought leaders, science writers, and collaborative groups. Contributors are individuals or collectives that are skilled at researching, synthesizing and communicating complex phenomena from different perspectives, with an evidence-based approach.
If you are interested in becoming a contributor to The InterPlex, there are currently several distinct options available. Hybrids of these frameworks are encouraged.
Weaving together evidence from various disciplines and perspectives. Ideally these “InterArticles” also include recordings, to integrate audio from multiple voices.
Broad, nuanced implications and clear, actionable recommendations. Commentaries should incorporate different forms of evidence and have at least one associated recorded InterDialogue.
Work that fits the guidelines and intentions of The InterPlex, with an emphasis on complexity and foundational questions. English translations of excerpts or articles originally published in another language can also be submitted. It is encouraged for republished excerpts or articles to be accompanied by an original InterDialogue.
Become a guest for a recorded InterDialogue, submit a recording of a dialogue that crosses disciplines and/or cultures, or propose an idea for a recorded dialogue that brings together diverse voices to discuss nuanced, evidence-based themes. InterDialogues should foster collaboration, and have broad appeal and application.
Contributors can form groups to foster interdisciplinary and intercultural collaboration, to produce content for the platform, and to develop projects, all supported by the broader InterPlex community.
