Environmental physicist at the University of São Paulo (USP), focused on global climate change, aerosols, teleconnections, precipitation patterns, cloud formation, urban air pollution and more, with a particular long-term focus on the Amazon Rainforest. Has been a visiting professor and researcher at Harvard University, NASA, the University of Stockholm, the Max Planck Institute for Chemistry, amongst others.

A Fellow of The World Academy of Sciences (TWAS), the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) and a member of the Brazilian Academy of Sciences, as well as a recipient of numerous prizes and recognitions within Brazil and around the world. A strong proponent of interdisciplinary and transboundary collaborations, and on fighting against misinformation and brain drain, in Brazil and other countries of the global south.
